NEW YORK, NEW YORK!!! ONWARD AND UPWARD!!!

When it comes to our family, New York State and  New York City have been the first stop for most of our Ancestors that came here from Ireland, England, Scotland and Austria!
Ellis Island was the first stop many of them made when they came to America, but long before Ellis Island we had Grants in Canada, Byrnes in New London Conn., Jessups in Mass., RI.,  and  New York.  That's just a few of the ones I can recall off the top of my head!
Going to Noyack  and  Sag Harbor were wonderful experiences to have, while in NY we   have also  been able to visit St. Patrick's  Cathedral, The Waldorf=Astoria and  the Statue of Liberty.  All these places and  more hold memories of those who went before us.
Why does it matter if we search out where our Ancestors came from or who they were, or what they did?   Why does it matter that we remember them???
I know my cousins whose Fathers served in WW II could tell us why!  I feel  that remembering the sacrifices they and  many others made to keep us free is one of the best ways we can show our gratitude for what they did.
I cant imagine how our Grandma Grant (Margaret Murtha Early) felt during WWII when she had 3 sons and  a daughter in the service.
How did Grandma feel every time she saw a 'Star' in one of the windows of friends or neighbors change colors?  I wish we had a picture of the "Service Flag" that hung in the Grant Home in Denver during WWII.   I can say with some degree of certainty that our Grandmother  felt very blessed that the Stars in their window never turned to gold!  All 3 of her children in the Service came home alive and well!
Those who went off to fight were not the only "War Hero's" in our family.  Think of our Grandparents, Auntie and Unk, our Aunts and Uncles and parents that were at home waiting for word about some one they loved.
If you don't know about the "Service Flags" or the meaning of the gold or silver stars youcould google for the answer, but I think a far better way to find out what they meant would be to talk to an Uncle, Grandfather, Mother or friend who was in the service or had someone dear to them serve our country.

We have a noble heritage left  by the men and  women who came before us.  Did you know Cousins that we are "Daughters of the American Revolution"??? That is those of us that are girls!

This blog has been slow to get up and going...I'm not a computer person!, but I'm blessed to have a dear friend who is a faithful blogger and she has done much to help me.
She writes daily on her blog, don't expect that from me, unless you all help.

Your experiences, memories, pictures and stories about your parents and other family members are what will make this a blog for all of us!!!
I hope you will help find 'those who came before us'!
Not only will we get to know them, we will get to know each other better.  Please share this blog with anyone in the family including close friends.  Sometimes they know more about our parents and grandparents than we do.

SO.......'THE GAMES A FOOT'!!!
